For this journal spotlight, we’re going for something a bit different – a journal placed firmly within the humanities. Journalism and Media strongly reflects its title, covering public relations, journalistic cultures, and news production, to name a few topics.
Journalism and Media: a brief history
Journalism and Media is published every quarter online. When it was first established in January 2020, it was named Future Journalism and Media, but by the following month, it had become simply Journalism and Media.
Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Andreu Casero-Ripollés, is also the President of the Spanish Society of Journalism. MDPI often partners with societies to launch and publish journals.
Managing Editor, Ivana Vuleta, provides insight into the journal and the work she does on a daily basis to support authors to publish.
In particular, she talks about the benefits of open access: ‘Open access gives scholars the opportunity to make their latest research publicly available to everyone.’
Furthermore, all of MDPI’s journals are published open access, with the aim of encouraging readership, citations, and impact across the academic community.

Our aim is to provide rigorous peer review and enable rapid publication of cutting-edge research to educate and inspire the scientific community worldwide. We encourage scientists to publish their experimental and theoretical results in as much detail as possible. And there is no restriction on the length of the papers. Full experimental details must be provided. This is so that results can be reproduced. If you want to learn more about MDPI’s open access policies, please visit our site for details.

All co-authors can see the manuscript details in the submission system. To do so, they must register and log in using the e-mail address provided during manuscript submission.
What’s next
The media is playing a pivotal role in people’s daily lives. In essence, research into how it functions and affects society is highly important. Open access has the power to expose the public to information about how journalism and the media are changing how we live. This is crucial in terms of transparency.
